Building a Better Baldwin
Baldwin Park Projects
This past year the Borough reviewed the two main parks located in Baldwin, Elm Leaf and Colewood Park. Both were identified for upgrading to address the aging infrastructure and recreational relevancy. The Borough contracted with Herbert, Rowland, & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) to develop a long-range master plan for both. Phase I for Elm Leaf Park has been designed and is now under construction. Phase I for Colewood is in the design stages and will be under construction within the next few months. Below is a description of the work planned and what to expect once completed:
Elm Leaf Park
This will become a brighter, more open, and inviting park with upgrades and amenities. The entrance road will be relocated and the all the park amenities will be located within approximately the same elevation vs. the old area, which was very hilly. Care was taken to work around the large oak tree near the old entrance to maintain this signature point. The new area will have upgraded lit horseshoe courts (4 total), with a small lit pavilion (20'x16') and two GFI electrical outlets; a new playground area with new equipment and a modern rubberized play surface; a fully functional restroom with plumbing and electric; a parking lot with 36 spaces, including ADA parking; a large pavilion (24'x36') with lighting and two GFI electrical outlets and an adjacent corn hole court area with permanent cornhole structures. The entire park will have 4 street lights and a walkway connecting all the amenities ringing the parking lot. All site lighting will be LED, which is more energy efficient and brighter. Based on the new design, you will be able to watch your kids play on the new playground while sitting in one of the pavilions or playing horseshoes. The project is scheduled to be complete by early November and will be open for the public in Spring of 2018!
Phase I will consist of a new soccer field (i.e. installation of a playing surface for use beginning in spring 2019). Additionally, the old wooden playground which was removed in 2016 will be replaced with a new playground area with new equipment and a modern rubberized play surface. Phase I will also include a new parking lot on the Colewood side consisting of approximately 24 spaces.
